The Edgar Allan Poe awards (the "Edgars") are awarded by the Mystery Writers of America to authors of distinguished work in various categories of the mystery genre.  The following list is of print literature only.  The awards for television, motion pictures, and plays have been omitted.

Best First Novel:   THE ROOM UPSTAIRS, by Mildred Davis and Simon & Schuster, Publisher

   Nominated:
   WILDERS WALK AWAY, by Herbert Brean (Wm. Morrow)
   SHOOT THE WORKS, by Richard Ellington (Wm. Morrow)

Best Fact Crime:  Marie Rodell for her editorship of the REGIONAL MURDER series (Duell, Sloan & Pearce)

Short Story Award: William Irish, for sustained excellence in short story writing and collections: DEADMAN BLUES and THE BLUE RIBBON.
